Last blogged @ 9:53 PM You no longer have to pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are shooting stars... Cus... I caught a meteor shower with my very own eyes just this morning!!! ![]() It was so impromptu, it made the entire experience more fulfilling and more memorable :) It was like a late night picnic, cos we bought breezers and lots of junk food to accompany us throughout the entire night since we were there at 12.30am, and the meteor shower would only happen between 2 -5am. So we laid our picnic mats on the water breaker and spent the time telling ghost stories. Shit, freaky, I kept having goosebumps. Oh, and worrying that the surrounding was too bright, or the sky was too cloudy, in fear that we wouldn't be able to catch the meteor shower. Time passed rather quickly and by 2.20am, the sky was really cloudy so it was kinda worrying that we would have made a wasted trip. So we laid on the mats, and stared really intensely at the moon, hoping that the clouds would clear, or held a slim hope that we would see a shooting star. At least one. I don't know if I was hallucinating, but I thought I kept seeing non-existent shooting stars. Maybe they are real, maybe they weren't. But all you know is that, perseverance does pay off. FINALLY. At 3.20am, we saw a flash from the corner of our eyes. OMG. SHOOTING STAR. PRETTY. Too pretty and too excited (because we were all busy screaming and exclaiming in delight) to remember to make a wish. YES THAT WAS IT. Now, our greedy Cherlyn wanted to see more. HAHAHAHA. And 10 minutes after, the 2nd star flashed across. Each time round, we will all definitely squeal in delight. MAD LOVE. Could feel ourselves hyperventilating, pinning our eyes on the sky, as the clouds started to clear, and the moon became brighter and clearer. The tides starting to rise, crashing their waves against the rocks. Our hearts were racing and each time someone made a noise, we thought it was another shooting star. Felt like we would have died of a heart attack anytime. By right, we should have been able to see about 50 stars in an hour, but on average, we managed to catch 1 in every 10 minutes. It's like... Anticipating when the next one will come... From which direction would we be able to see it from. Each one lasted for only a brief 1 second, you don't even have the time to tell other people, "hey, meteor!" But each experience makes you feel like, hey, you're in love! Each one is different. Sometimes you see the star that nobody else can see, and you know it's special. Regardless of how uncomfortable the rocks were, no matter how cold the night was, all we wanted was to catch another opportunity to see another shooting star. So happy I managed to see 11 shooting stars (and 2 or 3 unknown ones, including one AFTER the meteor shower timing, so maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me). But yes, that 11 was real. How nice if I were able to catch it with my loved one. At least I made a wish admist all the excitement :) That was certainly the first time any of us had ever gazed at the sky for such long hours. It felt surreal. And perhaps, magical. Labels: Friends, Shooting Stars |
